Introduction
The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal, which was previously the Regional Engineering College (REC), was set up in 1959. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru laid its foundation stone on October 10, 1959, and it became the first in the series of 31 NITs (previously RECs) in India. NIT Warangal became one of the premier engineering colleges in the nation, renowned for academic excellence, innovation, and leadership training, since its inception.
Realizing that students need to be prepared not only academically but also professionally, NIT Warangal collaborated with our platform to introduce a guided mentorship program that brings together students and seasoned mentors and alumni.
The Challenge
Though NIT Warangal has consistently provided excellent academic programs, students traditionally struggled outside of the classroom, including:
-
Lack of clarity in career paths as competition grew.
-
Closing the gap between theory and industry demands.
-
Inadequate access to mentors who would give individualized advice on placements, higher education, or entrepreneurship.
-
Unstructured alumni outreach, with potential for deeper connections going unused.
The institute required a scalable, sustainable solution to impart mentorship at scale and encourage greater alumni-student interaction.
The Solution
To meet these requirements, NIT Warangal initiated a focused mentorship ecosystem through our Alumni management platform, leveraging its professional network and alumni base.
Key initiatives comprised:
-
Approximately 550 mentors from a variety of backgrounds, including technology, management, research, and entrepreneurship, volunteering from within the alumni community.
-
Establishing a community of more than 40,000 alumni actively participating in the platform.
-
Providing various formats of mentorship—spanning one-on-one support and career-specific discussions.
-
Providing a systematic and efficient mechanism for alumni to pay back to their alma mater.
The Results
The initiative has already shown tangible impact:
-
Approximately 550 alumni mentors supporting students/alumni in academic, career, and professional life.
-
In excess of 40,000 alumni and students engaged actively in using the platform to network and learn.
-
Improved student confidence and employability, with numerous students gaining clarity on placements, further education, and entrepreneurship opportunities.
-
forging a culture of mentorship and cooperation between the community members.
Conclusion
Ever since its inception in 1959, NIT Warangal has been at the forefront of India higher education. By embracing a formalized mentorship program, the institution has furthered its vision to develop future leaders through mentoring, networking, and professional growth.
This milestone shows how mentorship can change the student experience, and we are honored to collaborate with NIT Warangal in developing a model replicable by other institutions.
