Introduction

Established in 1999, Ahmedabad University (AU) is one of the largest private universities in Ahmedabad, founded by the Ahmedabad Education Society, a non-profit educational trust. Comprising four schools, AU has a vast alumni base spread across India and around the world.

The Challenge

With its alumni base growing every year, AU had lost track of many of its older alumni. The university faced difficulty in connecting with long-lost graduates due to lack of updated alumni information, making manual outreach unsustainable and limiting alumni participation in university events.

The Solution

In November 2017, AU partnered with AlmaShines and launched its journey on the AlmaShines Alumni Platform with a starting base of approximately 6,000 alumni. The approach included:

  • First Three Months: AU ran multiple engagement campaigns to revive alumni interest. Alumni responded enthusiastically, inviting friends and expanding the network to 8,000 active members. Social media and peer-to-peer invitations helped reach a wider audience.

  • 2018 Initiatives: AU focused on professional networking and job opportunities through the platform. Alumni actively participated in these initiatives, helping the alumni community grow to around 10,000 members.

  • 2019 Campaigns: Recognizing alumni contributions in professional and social fields, AU ran campaigns celebrating achievements. Engagement increased further, with the alumni network expanding to 12,000 members, and participation in events and social media sharing soared.

The Results

  • Alumni base grew from 6,000 to 12,000 in just two years.

  • Increased participation in alumni events and professional networking opportunities.

  • Successful grand reunion in January 2020, attended by alumni across all schools, receiving massive appreciation.

Conclusion

By leveraging a digital alumni platform, Ahmedabad University transformed its alumni engagement, creating a strong, connected, and active alumni community. The platform enabled scalable outreach, professional networking, and celebratory campaigns, resulting in enhanced alumni loyalty and participation.
