Introduction
The Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi Alumni Association (IITDAA) has always aimed to give back to its alumni community and society. In line with the Swachhata Initiative, IITDAA launched the Village Adoption Program (VAPUSI) to support villages around Delhi NCR with essential facilities such as sanitation, education, and basic infrastructure. To make this vision a reality, the association sought the support of its 35,000+ strong alumni base.
Challenges
Although the initiative had a noble vision, IITDAA faced certain challenges:
-
Reaching out and mobilizing a globally spread alumni base.
-
Encouraging sustained participation instead of one-time interest.
-
Building a smooth and secure donation system to drive contributions.
-
Creating trust and transparency to ensure alumni felt their support made real impact.
Solution
In 2018, IITDAA partnered with AlmaShines Alumni Platform to maximize alumni engagement and fundraising efforts. Key steps included:
-
Fund Raising Module: A dedicated fundraising campaign was launched on the alumni platform, enabling over 26,000+ active alumni to contribute easily and securely.
-
Alumni Fund Creation: With strong appreciation and encouragement, a dedicated fund was set up to support the VAPUSI initiative.
-
Engagement Campaigns: Powerful outreach campaigns were executed using the platform’s Mailing Engine and integrated Social Media Channels to spread awareness and encourage participation.
-
Community Involvement: Alumni were invited not only to donate but also to become actively involved, instilling pride and ownership.
Results
The impact of the initiative was both immediate and long-lasting:
-
In just the first month, the campaign raised close to ₹20 Lakhs, reflecting the strength of alumni solidarity.
-
Over the course of 12 months, the initiative generated more than ₹30 Lakhs with contributions from 700+ donors.
-
The alumni community expressed immense pride in being part of this noble cause, deepening their emotional connection with IIT Delhi while making a meaningful contribution to societal development.
Conclusion
The Village Adoption Program (VAPUSI) stands as a shining example of how alumni engagement can create real and lasting social impact. By leveraging the AlmaShines Alumni Platform, IIT Delhi Alumni Association not only raised significant funds but also strengthened its alumni bonds through shared purpose and participation.
This case demonstrates the transformative power of technology-driven alumni engagement in turning collective goodwill into sustainable change for society.
