Introduction

The origins of Nitte (Deemed to be University) can be traced to Nitte Education Trust which was founded in 1979 by Late Justice K.S. Hegde, a renowned Supreme Court Judge and Lok Sabha Speaker. The Trust has established more than 35 institutions in Nitte, Mangalore and Bangalore as its mission is to empower the rural youth by providing them with quality education and healthcare. Nitte today provides education in a variety of fields which include health sciences, engineering, management, humanities, and vocational studies.

With the increased number of Nitte alumni worldwide, it became necessary to have a professional online ecosystem to network the graduates, enhance interaction, and promote professional and entrepreneurial networking.

Challenges

Nitte did not have a single digital platform, which it used to establish contact with its large alumni base before implementing AlmaShines.

Informal channels created disjointed communication, and the institution did not have a specific system to recognize alumni accomplishments, business ventures, or partnerships.

This reduced the exposure of alumni owned businesses and the ability to network on business and grow professionally and mutually. The institution needed a solution that should not only be able to handle alumni data, but also develop an ecosystem that would foster entrepreneurship and collaboration among the members of the institution.

Solution

Nitte (Deemed to be University) took action to resolve these issues by partnering with AlmaShines, a superior alumni management system that fosters long-term interaction.

Nitte effectively utilized the Alumni Business Connect module, a dedicated section that allows alumni to post, promote, and discover businesses owned or managed by fellow alumni.

With this feature, alumni would be able to:

  • Alumni can present their entrepreneurial activities to the wider community.

  • Partner with fellow students on partnerships, service and mentorship.

  • Be known in a trusted professional network.

The smooth twist of the Business connect module with the general alumni management system promoted active involvement, community-based development and networking.

Results

The project was an impressive involvement and achievement. The Nitte Alumni Network expanded to contain more than 1,00,000+ registered members and made it a colorful virtual world of professionals and entrepreneurs.

Key Highlights:

  • 6,500+ new businesses were registered under the Business Connect module.

  • Created a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem within the alumni community.

  • Strengthened collaboration and trust among alumni through shared opportunities.

  • Transformed alumni engagement from passive connection to active professional collaboration.

Alumni used the feature not only as a business system but also as a collaboration platform where they supported and guided one another while growing their businesses, which strengthened mutual trust.

Conclusion

The adoption of AlmaShines and its Alumni Business Connect functionality changed the nature of alumni outreach at Nitte. What started as a digital solution developed into a successful professional community that helped alumni to present their entrepreneurial projects and establish valuable partnerships.

By closing the divide between alumni networks and business prospects, Nitte (Deemed to be University) was able to establish a model of alumni-led industry and community empowerment — transforming a network of graduates into an engine of development, potential and influence.
